Music 

Music is important in the life and ministry of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. We use three service resources in our worship:  Lutheran Book of Worship, Hymnal Supplement 1991, and With One Voice.  The congregation sings all LBW settings, "Now the Feast and Celebration" from the Hymnal Supplement, "Bread of Life" setting from With One Voice, LBW Vespers (evening prayer), and Holden Evening Prayer.

Music is a year-round ministry. The bell choirs present programs for the Lutheran Home in Rockville, and attend a bell workshop and festival each year. The Sanctuary Choir participates in the National Association of Church Musicians annual adult choir festival, and usually joins with St. Peters-in-the-Woods Episcopal Church adult choir in a shared worship service during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in January. 

Music ministry at Christ Church includes:

                                        

CHRIST LUTHERAN COMMEMORATIVE CHIMES - a handbell choir for high school students and adults,  rings a 5-octave set of handbells and a 4-octave set of hand chimes. Bells practice on Monday evening, 7:15 - 8:45 p.m., and ring in worship once a month and for special services

                                                                                                           

SANCTUARY CHOIR - a choral choir for high school students and adults singing music from a wide range of styles and centuries. Choir rehearses on Thursday evening, 7:15 - 8:45 p.m., and sings  most Sundays, primarily at 11:00 a.m. 

 

CAROL CHOIR - a choral choir for 2nd-8th graders rehearses on Thursday afternoon, 5:00 - 6:00 and sings once a month in Sunday morning worship.                                

 

CHRIST LUTHERAN ORCHESTRA - an instrumental ensemble for all instrumentalists, including upper elementary and high school students, plays for the Hanging of the Greens during Advent and for various seasonal or special events. 

 

Instrumentalists participate frequently as soloists and accompanists for service music and anthems in our worship.
