Other Groups at Christ Church

PRIME TIMERS  Provides fellowship and support for older (usually retired) members of the congregation. This program normally includes at least one major tour type event and one fellowship breakfast a month.

CONFIRMATION  Our Confirmation class for seventh and eighth graders uses the ELCA curriculum Here We Stand which focuses on growing the faith of youth. Interacting with a group of adult mentors, the students learn, serve, and enjoy fellowship opportunities as they prepare to affirm their baptism and join the adult membership of the parish.

YOUTH GROUPS  Our youth groups are an important component of our congregation.  Groups for 4th-6th graders and 7th-8th graders meet monthly.  A senior high group meets twice a month during the school year.  The senior high group plans and participates in a Youth Sunday service, takes part in the annual Chi Rho work camp, the Metro DC Synod Crysalis retreat, the triennial ELCA Youth Gathering, and a variety of other activities.  In July 2006, five Christ Church senior high students will attend CRUZANDO, the National Youth Gathering in San Antonio, Texas.

PRAYER GROUP  Meets Tuesdays at 7 pm.  The Prayer Group offers intercessory prayers for the congregation and for anyone who needs or requests it.

BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP  Our Book Discussion Group meets one evening a month to discuss a book chosen by the group.  Some recent titles are Snow in August by Pete Hamill and Thinking Out Loud by Anna Quindlen.

WELCA is a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit. All women of the congregation are automatically members. The mission of WELCA is to grow in our faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, society, and the world.

WELCA has two circles who meet monthly for Bible study. The Ruth Circle meets during the day and the Lydia Circle meets in the evening, both on the second Tuesday of the month. Members take turns leading the study sessions. In addition to Bible study, the Ruth Circle is also responsible for service projects such as preparing Chrismons for the nave Christmas tree and for the children's Sunday School, assemble school and health kits, layettes for Lutheran World Relief, and join in other church/community related projects as needed.
